Rod Duke is a former energy industry CEO and testifying expert, specialising in technical and commercial matters in the LNG industry. Rod has 40 years of international experience in natural gas and electricity including design, engineering, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance and a wide range of commercial, marketing & trading activities across six large international projects.

Rod Duke’s extensive expertise in natural gas has made him a successful and well-regarded testifying expert in major international LNG industry arbitration, as well as advising on oil & natural gas, LNG, electricity & renewables issues.

Rod was Chief Executive Officer of the Gladstone LNG project where he oversaw the safe and successful engineering, procurement & construction (EPC), commissioning, and ongoing commercial operations of GLNG over seven years.

He has also held senior roles as CEO of Energy Queensland, SVP at Singapore LNG, and at the Energy Market Authority of the Government of Singapore, Woodside and Santos.

Rod holds an honours degree in Chemical Engineering and a Graduate Diploma of Management. He is a board member of several not-for-profit entities.

Rod holds a wealth of energy experience, specializing in technical and commercial matters in the LNG industry.

Here are a some of Rod’s recent assignments:

  • Prepared an expert report, presented direct evidence and testified under cross-examination in a major international arbitration between an LNG producer and one of its LNG buyers.
  • Providing technical and commercial advice to a customer of an LNG receiving terminal regarding the cost of storage and regasification services.
  • Engaged as an independent expert witness in an international arbitration between a customer and a new LNG liquefaction facility.
  • Advising significant industrial power users and several renewables projects.

Rod has a wealth of energy industry experience, especially of technical and commercial matters in the LNG industry having worked as:

  • Group CEO of the US$20 billion Energy Queensland (the largest electricity company in Australia) and as CEO and board director of all its subsidiaries including Energex, Ergon and Yurika.
  • CEO of the US$18.5 million GLNG project including the pipelines and liquefaction plant selling LNG to long term buyers.
  • Senior Vice President at Singapore LNG, Rod was responsible for all commercial & operational activities, and project management of the EPC contract, for the US$1+ billion LNG import/reloading facility.
  • Project Director with Singapore’s Energy Market Authority, where Rod negotiated all commercial contracts including the LNG Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA), Terminal Services Agreement (TSA), and six Gas Sales Agreements (GSAs) to structure the country’s LNG import sector; and finalised the Singapore LNG import and reloading terminal’s licensing, funding, basis-of-design, front-end-engineering the EPC contracting for its’ final investment decision.
  • General Manager Gas Business Development with Woodside marketing long term LNG supplies and trading spot cargoes.
